Things to do for Spring Break in Des Moines

1. Check out an “Adventure Pass” from the library

This is a local Mom favorite! Use your Des Moines Library card to check out an Iowa Adventure Pass to visit Blank Park Zoo, Brenton Skating Plaza, Des Moines Children’s Museum, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, and the Science Center of Iowa. Each pass allows entrance for two adults and two children.

2. Play at a park

If the weather stays nice, spring break is a great time to get out and explore some parks around Des Moines. The newly updated Racoon River Park is a favorite for all ages or check out some of these other area parks with new features

3. Try a new restaurant

We can’t keep up with all of the new restaurants popping up across the metro. Here are some of our favorite kid-friendly spots. Or plan a day date and head to one over your lunch break. Explore our list of what’s new in Des Moines and make a plan for yourself!

4. Go to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Put on your green attire and head downtown for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16. It starts at noon at 15th Street and Mulberry and heads to Grand Avenue.

Read the book then go see Dragons Love Tacos at the Des Moines Playhouse through March 10. Or plan a date night or girls night and get tickets to see Funny Girl at the Civic Center.
