Here are five ideas for how you can spend time as a family over spring break, or just to get outside and shake off the winter funk.

Things to do for Spring Break in Des Moines
1. Explore Downtown Des Moines
Spend a day exploring downtown Des Moines! Tour the state Capitol, learn something new at the State Historical Building, have lunch at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, and check out the Pterosaurs exhibit at the Science Center of Iowa.
2. Play at a park
If the weather cooperates, spring break is a great time to get out and explore some parks around Des Moines. The newly updated Colby Park in Windsor Heights is a favorite for all ages or check out some of these other area parks with new features.
3. Try a new restaurant
We can’t keep up with all of the new restaurants popping up across the metro. Here are some of our favorite kid-friendly spots. Or plan a day date and head to one over your lunch break. Explore our list of what’s new in Des Moines and make a plan for yourself!
4. Go to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Put on your green attire and head downtown for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17. It starts at noon at 15th Street and Mulberry and heads to Grand Avenue.
5. See a play
Go see Jesus Christ Super Star at the Des Moines Playhouse March 7–23. Or plan a date night or girls night and get tickets to see Some Like It Hot at the Civic Center.
