Cities across the metro are celebrating big this year for America’s 250th Independence Anniversary. Many will host multi-day celebrations, featuring an array of festivities – from lively carnivals and festive parades to fun runs and more.

July 3 | Yankee Doodle Pops, West Terrace, Iowa State Capitol
8:30 p.m.
Join the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra for the 32nd Annual Yankee Doodle Pops on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol. This family friendly event will be dedicated to the celebration of America’s 250th Independence Day Anniversary. Bring your blankets, picnic baskets, and lawn chairs for a patriotic concert and fireworks display over the Des Moines skyline. The event will also be broadcast statewide on Iowa PBS and Iowa Public Radio.
July 3 | Stars and Stripes Weekend, Prairie Meadows
Don’t miss this dazzling show happening at dusk.
July 3 | Fireworks with Bad Friends, Riverview Park
See fireworks after an outdoor concert by Bad Friends.
July 4 | Adventureland, Altoona
Spend the day riding rides or beating the heat at the waterpark or just drive out for the yearly fireworks show at 10pm.
July 4 | Carlisle
Head to North Park to see the show at 10 p.m.
July 4 | Waukee Celebration, Centennial Park
Festivities include a carnival, parade, fun run, bags tournament, and more! Fireworks will follow a special skydiver demonstration by the Des Moines Skydivers on July 4.
July 4 | West Des Moines Weekend, Jordan Creek Town Center
Spend a jam packed Independence Day weekend. Fireworks light the sky at 9:45 pm following a free concert and celebration.
July 4 | Urbandale Annual 4th of July Celebration, west side Walker Johnson Park
From a 5k fun run to carnival rides or a 2-mile-long parade to a breathtaking fireworks display, the Urbandale celebration is one of the largest in the area.
July 4 | Fireworks, at Newton Agnes Patterson Memorial Park
Join the throw contest, enjoy kids inflatables and entertainment before the fireworks.

The Grimes fireworks were the first weekend of June this year. There will not be fireworks in Grimes on July 4.
