What’s New in Des Moines Spring 2026

Ashawa Park Kids will love climbing the towers and going down the slides at this new park across from the West Des Moines Public Library (4477 Waterford Dr, West Des Moines).

 

Discovery Center at Valley Church in West Des Moines

Discovery Center Play Dates If you have toddlers, you’ll definitely want to add these to your calendar. Come meet other families in an indoor play space, found in the lower level of Valley Church, as well as an outdoor play area with towers, music stations and sensory walls. Play dates happen 1st & 3rd Thursdays and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12 pm. Use the East Entrance.

The Happy Egg Check out the latest brunch spot in Johnston—we recommend the crepes! 

T12 Distillery Located inside an abandoned grain elevator, the distillery is set to open later this spring. It will be the country’s only fully wheelchair-accessible distillery. It is the anchor project of a new development in what is being called Bondurant’s Grain District. 

Bonchon Enjoy tasty Korean fried chicken at 6880 EP True Parkway at this fast-casual restaurant. Anticipated opening is April 30.

Purveyor Restaurant & Wine Market Check out the second location for this wine bar/European market opening a new space at The Meridian in West Des Moines this spring.

Desi Fresh Find high-quality groceries, specialty ingredients, and traditional Indian flavors along with freshly prepared Indian food in Waukee (1475 SE Bishop Dr Waukee). 

Wayback Burgers Watch for this popular burger and shake shop to open in Waukee (1165 SE Alice’s Rd Waukee). 

Spring blooms We’re counting down the days til the tulips are blooming at Center Grove Orchard in Cambridge and Wilson’s Farm in Cumming!

    One great place that accepts/needs donations is JOPPA (DesMoines). They provide many services for the homeless population. They also have a very good thrift store.
