The Teal Pumpkin Project is a nationwide cause created by the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) organization to provide a safe and fun environment for children with allergies. All you have to do is have non-edible items to hand out for those kids with allergies along with placing a teal pumpkin on your front door to let families know you have goodies that all children can have! Healthy Halloween Treats
If you are like me, you dread all the candy and sugar that Halloween brings and would love to opt for some healthy halloween treats instead. With food allergies and all the limitations schools now have on the food you can bring, I found some super cute and healthy ideas for your next school party or fall event. I changed a few of the ingredients to make them allergen-friendly.
I love these apple smiles found on Listolic. They have healthy protein from the sun butter, a fruit serving, and a few marshmallows for extra sweetness! (I subbed with sun butter instead of peanut butter to make these school-approved but you could also use a jelly instead) I also use Eylon Brand Marshmallow (which is gluten-free and allergen-friendly) for the teeth.
Carrot Eyeball Snacks
I thought these were super fun, while the traditional post I found at Listolic calls for cream cheese, I opted to make these dairy-free by using a gluten-free/preservative-free Marshmallow fluff and swapped the olives out with red grapes. I might try using cantaloupe instead of carrots too but that would create more work to cut all the pieces!
Banana Ghosts and Clementine Oranges
These ghosts and pumpkins I found on Popsugar are super simple and by far the easiest fall snack out there! Use Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips for the faces on the banana ghosts! The only downside is the bananas can turn brown if they are left out too long. Pinterest had whole bananas that they just drew scary faces on with a Sharpie marker.
Deviled Pumpkin Eggs
Deviled eggs aren’t something you think to take to school for a healthy snack. These and are perfect for Thanksgiving too! I made regular deviled eggs and used a natural orange food color for color instead of the spicy siracha and curry kick that the original recipe by TadkaPasta calls for. (This natural food coloring comes in packets. You do have to mix colors to get orange, but it was the best I found!)
